TAMPA, Fla. — Fire crews battled a three-alarm blaze Saturday afternoon at an empty building on the former Weinberg Village campus in Tampa, the site of a Jewish community center and senior living community that closed last year.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was alerted at about 4:17 p.m., when a passerby dialed 911 after seeing smoke and flames on the roof of the building at 13009 Community Campus Drive. The first units pulled up within eight minutes.

Those first firefighters confirmed the structure was burning and, because of how large the building is and how much it could fuel a fire, asked right away for a second alarm. The call was later raised to a third alarm, sending more crews and equipment to the scene.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to get the flames under control. No firefighters or civilians were hurt. Crews were still working at the property into Saturday evening, and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue has not said what started the fire or how much damage it did.

According to people who work at the facility, the building had been unused for about a year before Saturday’s fire. Weinberg Village had served as an assisted living and memory care community in Tampa that welcomed residents of all faiths while keeping Jewish traditions and values. Its website says it closed for good on Nov. 20, 2025.

No information has been released about who owns the building now, how badly it was damaged or what is planned for the property, a campus that once housed residents in their later years.
