Tampa – The USF Contemporary Art Museum is set to launch two new exhibitions, “After Structure” and “Beyond Support”, which will be on display from June 13 to August 2. The exhibition opening will take place on June 13, featuring a film screening followed by an opening reception.

“After Structure” will showcase works by renowned artists Richard Tuttle and Mike Cloud. Tuttle’s contribution includes “Renaissance Unframed.” This piece features a series of unique encaustic monotypes on muslin fabric that Tuttle created in 1995. In contrast, Cloud’s collection, which spans from 2008 to 2024, comprises abstract and iconographic artworks that delve into the theme of structure in various forms.

The second exhibition, “Beyond Support,” exclusively highlights artworks from the University of South Florida Collection. This exhibition includes notable works by artists such as Carlos Amorales, El Anatsui, John Cage, and Lucy Orta, among others. Both exhibitions aim to challenge traditional views on support systems in art and social contexts. The curatorial direction for “After Structure” is led by Mark Fredricks, with assistance from Christian Viveros-Fauné for “Beyond Support.”

The exhibitions are organized in collaboration with various USF entities, including the USF College of Design, Art & Performance and the Stanton Storer Embrace the Arts Foundation. The museum is known for engaging the community through exploratory contemporary art exhibits, educational programs, and curatorial projects.

On the opening day, a film screening of “(nostalgia)” by Hollis Frampton will take place at 7 p.m. in the USF School of Music Barness Hall. This screening connects the experimental structural films from the early 1970s to the exhibitions, setting the tone for the themes explored in the artwork.

The public is invited to the opening reception scheduled for 8 p.m., which promises a festive atmosphere with dessert and coffee to celebrate the new exhibitions. Admission to both exhibitions is free and open to all visitors.

The museum operates Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursdays until 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It remains closed on Sundays and holidays, including June 19 and July 4.

The USF Contemporary Art Museum is home to over 5,000 contemporary artworks and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It serves as a hub for significant contemporary art dialogue, aiming to foster community engagement through its diverse program of exhibitions and educational initiatives.
