The existence of the cemetery was integral to the founding of the town of Limona itself. In 1891, the Limona Cemetery Association was formed to manage and preserve the cemetery, ensuring its status as a community asset.
In 1982, the Limona Cemetery Association entered into a Perpetual Care Trust Agreement with the Limona Village Chapel United Methodist Church, which aims to guarantee the cemetery’s ongoing preservation. The cemetery is notable for being the final resting place of Judge Knapp and his family, as well as the Moseley family and other significant historical figures whose names are reflected in the streets of the area.
Looking ahead, the Limona Cemetery and its surrounding community will celebrate 150 years of existence on January 12, 2026. Plans for this milestone celebration include a collaborative effort between the Limona Cemetery Association, Preserving Brandon, and the Timberly Trust, further underscoring the importance of community engagement in local history.
