Tampa, Florida – The Florida Aquarium is enhancing visitor engagement this holiday weekend by providing special enrichment treats for its animals, while also launching a new sloth encounter experience. The initiatives are designed to captivate the public’s interest and raise awareness of wildlife conservation efforts.

This holiday, the aquarium’s ring-tailed lemurs, Annie, Lulu, and Remmy, were treated to festive red, white, and blue “bomb pops” made from a healthy combination of strawberries, bananas, and blueberries. Meanwhile, Apaporis, a two-toed sloth, enjoyed fresh corn on the cob, one of his favorite snacks.

In addition to the special treats, the Florida Aquarium has introduced a new Sloth Encounter experience, available to visitors for an additional fee of $60. This unique opportunity allows guests to meet both Apaporis and the aquarium’s female sloth, Leona, fostering a deeper connection with these fascinating creatures.

Complementing the animal enrichment activities, the aquarium is also promoting “Plastic Free July,” a new initiative aimed at reducing the use of single-use plastics. As part of this effort, the Florida Aquarium has taken significant steps by eliminating single-use plastic bottles on its premises, opting instead for reusable bags in its gift shop.

In support of sustainability, the aquarium is offering a range of eco-friendly retail items, including plush toys made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. This initiative is designed to encourage visitors to make conscious choices that benefit the environment.

The Florida Aquarium invites the community to participate in its Beyond Plastic Ecochallenge team. This initiative encourages local residents to compete against various zoos and aquariums worldwide, striving to promote eco-friendly practices and safeguard marine life.

The aquarium aims to create a positive impact on marine life and the environment by encouraging visitors to make small yet meaningful choices in their everyday lives. This multi-faceted approach to education and conservation underscores the aquarium’s commitment to wildlife preservation.

As a central hub for wildlife conservation and education throughout Tampa Bay, the Florida Aquarium plays a pivotal role in fostering awareness and engagement in environmental issues. Through initiatives such as these, the aquarium not only entertains visitors but also informs and inspires them to participate actively in conservation efforts.

Ultimately, the combined offerings of holiday treats for the animals and new educational experiences, along with sustainability efforts, enrich the visitor experience at the Florida Aquarium. The aquarium continues its mission to serve as a beacon for wildlife conservation while inspiring the local community to join in the global movement towards a more eco-conscious society.
