Tampa Bay is set to host the traveling art exhibition titled “Sacred Pilgrimage: Gaudí and Galban,” featuring the first-ever showcase by contemporary Cuban American artist AGalban. This exhibition is inspired by the iconic work of architect Antoni Gaudí and particularly celebrates the ongoing construction of the famed La Sagrada Família in Barcelona. Following a successful launch at the Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church in downtown Clearwater, the exhibition will move to The Portico, located at 1001 N. Florida Ave. in downtown Tampa. Visitors will be able to view the exhibit from August 4 to August 22, 2025.
As part of the exhibition’s programming, a special public event titled “The Art of Architecture: A Panel Discussion” will take place on August 8 at 6 p.m. at The Portico. The discussion will delve into the intersections of art, architecture, and spirituality, drawing connections between AGalban’s works and the broader themes of faith and creativity. Additionally, an Open Mic Night is scheduled for August 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Portico Café, serving as a celebratory platform for AGalban’s artistry and encouraging community engagement.
After its Tampa stop, the exhibition will continue its journey to The Gallery at Creative Pinellas in Largo, where it will be open to the public from August 29 to November 2, 2025. In the latter part of 2025, the exhibit is also planned to travel to Miami, extending its reach within Florida. Come January 2026, the St. Augustine Art Association will host the exhibition from January 2 to January 31, 2026.
The ambitious exhibition aims to culminate its journey by reaching Barcelona in June 2026, coinciding with the anticipated completion of Gaudí’s La Sagrada Família and marking a century since the artist’s passing. AGalban’s art not only reflects personal and spiritual narratives but also integrates contemporary artistic practices with architectural elements. This unique blend invites individuals and communities to engage with themes of beauty, faith, and healing through the concept of pilgrimage.
The exhibition is co-curated by Tarin Mohajeri and Antonio Permuy, with support from the Gobioff Foundation. AGalban has garnered recognition for his ability to merge various styles and media, contributing to a versatile body of work seen across numerous artistic institutions, books, films, and television. His exploration of spiritual and cultural motifs resonates with diverse audiences, making this exhibition a significant addition to the Tampa Bay arts scene.
The public is encouraged to stay informed about the touring exhibition and its related events by visiting AGalban’s official website. This event not only highlights the continued importance of Gaudí’s architectural legacy but also fosters a dialogue around the evolving nature of art in the contemporary landscape.
