Tampa, Florida – The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts (FMoPA) is showcasing exceptional global talent as part of the 2025 International Photography Competition, which received over 25,000 submissions from 55 countries. The winners of this prestigious competition are on display until August 24 at the Ybor City museum, located at 1630 E 7th Avenue.
The exhibition opened recently with a reception attended by photography enthusiasts, showcasing the talents of both emerging and established artists from around the world. The judging panel was composed of international photography specialists from various nations, including Sweden, Cypress, the USA, Italy, Japan, Australia, and India, who brought diverse perspectives to the selection process.
Among the notable winners, Maho, a photographer from Tehran, claimed First Place in the People/Portraits category for the photograph titled “pray Eid al-Fitr,” which also earned the title of Best of Competition. In addition to this recognition, Maho secured First Place in the Places/Landscape category with the piece “The Flow of Life.” Fellow Iranian artist Armin Amiria won First Place in the Conceptual category with his work “Rebel-01,” illustrating the competition’s commitment to recognizing innovative artistic expressions.
Another noteworthy achievement in the People/Portraits category went to Steven White, whose piece “Cruise 1,” featuring elderly men who participated in a photo shoot on a cruise ship, was awarded Second Place. This highlights the broad themes explored in the competition, which includes portraiture, conceptual photography, landscape, documentary, and still life.
In support of ongoing artistic expression within the community, FMoPA is also hosting the exhibition “Here For Now,” which showcases personal stories about identity and community. This exhibition will run until October 5, presenting a continued opportunity for visitors to engage with the diverse narratives portrayed through photography.
Additionally, FMoPA is currently soliciting submissions for “The Soldier’s Lens” exhibition, aimed at capturing the real experiences of active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. Interested participants are encouraged to submit their photographs before the deadline of August 15. This exhibition seeks to deepen the understanding of the experiences in active conflict zones from the vantage point of those who have served.
The 2025 International Photography Competition not only celebrates photographic excellence but also fosters dialogue through visual storytelling, encouraging photographers to explore themes such as identity, conflict, environment, memory, and the passage of time in their works. This year’s competition served as a testament to the power of photography as a medium for cultural exchange and communication in a time of increasing global interconnectedness.
The vast number of submissions and the diversity in represented themes underscore the importance of photography in highlighting unique perspectives and fostering connections among individuals from different backgrounds. Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see a wide array of interpretations reflecting the multifaceted nature of human experience as depicted through the lens of photography.
