News Summary

Memorial Day 2025, observed on May 26, leads to business closures in Tampa Bay. Government offices will be closed, while several grocery and retail stores maintain varying hours. Residents are encouraged to check specific hours of operation for businesses, especially restaurants and pharmacies, during this holiday period.

Tampa Bay – Memorial Day 2025 will be observed on Monday, May 26, as a federal holiday, leading to the closure of many businesses and government services throughout the Tampa Bay area. While this day serves as a time to remember military personnel who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, it also marks the unofficial start of summer for many, featuring celebrations such as parades, cookouts, and beach outings.

Most government offices, including post offices, public schools, legislative offices, and courts will be closed as a result of the holiday. Additionally, mail delivery will not occur on this day, with services from USPS, FedEx, and UPS suspended, as all post offices will be closed. As a reminder, banks will also be closed, though ATM access may remain available.

In terms of retail, the impact on operating hours will vary amongst businesses. Publix grocery stores will remain open during regular hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Memorial Day, although their pharmacy will not be open for business. Publix is known for being open on most holidays, only closing on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Walmart, including their membership-only section, will have modified hours on Memorial Day, operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Consumers are encouraged to check with their local stores for specific hours, as some major retailers may adjust their operating times.

National restaurant chains such as Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell plan to maintain their regular hours. However, independently owned franchises may choose to close, so it is advisable for customers to confirm individual locations’ hours prior to visiting.

CVS Pharmacy will be operational but on reduced hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In contrast, Walgreens Pharmacy will be closed for the holiday. The Walmart Pharmacy will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while Aldi stores will keep their regular hours but will close early at 6 p.m. Whole Foods Market will also operate during its standard hours, while Costco will be closed for Memorial Day.

For members of Sam’s Club, the store will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Plus members and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Club members. Winn-Dixie is expected to be open with regular hours throughout the holiday. Shoppers looking for a more exhaustive list of businesses that are open or closed in the Tampa Bay area on Memorial Day are encouraged to check local resources or community bulletins.

Understanding the varying hours of operation can help residents and visitors to navigate their plans effectively. Memorial Day serves as both a solemn remembrance for some and a festive kickoff of summer for others in the Tampa Bay area.
