Teen Murder Arrest: 15-Year-Old Charged in Tampa Shooting

Tampa, Florida – 15-Year-Old Arrested for Teen Murder

In a tragic incident that has deeply affected the community, 15-year-old Jahmir Moore was arrested for the murder of 14-year-old Jevario Buie on April 17 in Central Florida. This event has sparked conversations about youth violence and the consequences surrounding it.

Incident Overview

At approximately 3:30 PM, local police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 1400 block of W. Busch Blvd. Officers discovered Jevario Buie near the railroad tracks, where he suffered fatal injuries from a shooting. The circumstances surrounding this incident are alarming, particularly given the ages of those involved.

Investigation Details

Video surveillance played a crucial role in the investigation. Footage captured Jevario, Jahmir, and another individual walking together between 2:41 PM and 3:27 PM. Shortly before the murder, at 3:33 PM, the video shows Moore and Buie walking northbound on N Rome Ave. This footage indicates that Moore was the last person seen with Buie before the shooting occurred.

During the timeline, Moore’s actions raised suspicions. At 3:36 PM, he is observed walking away from the scene, presenting a clear gap between his movements and the last sighting of Buie. Detectives later uncovered messages and social media communication, revealing that Moore had been in contact with Buie prior to the incident. These messages included specific details not released to the public, strengthening the case against Moore.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Moore was charged with multiple serious felonies, including one count of murder in the first degree, one count of carrying a concealed firearm, one count of tampering with physical evidence, and one misdemeanor count of minor in possession of a firearm. The Tampa Police Department, in collaboration with the US Marshals Task Force, successfully apprehended Moore this month.

In a statement regarding this case, Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed his sorrow over the loss of a young life and praised the detectives for their diligent work. “The loss of a child, especially in such a tragic manner, is unfathomable,” he stated, highlighting the importance of closure for Jevario’s family.

Community Reaction

The community is grappling with the news of this young murder case. State Attorney Suzy Lopez commented on the impact this incident has had on Jevario’s family, noting, “Not only did they lose their precious son, but they also had been living without answers.” She emphasized the legal accountability that Moore will face as he will be charged as an adult due to the serious nature of the crime. “When you make adult decisions, you must be prepared to face adult consequences,” she added.

Broader Implications

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the pressing issue of youth violence in communities. With lives lost so young, it underscores a critical need for conversations involving education, support for adolescents, and the community’s role in preventing such tragedies.

As this case unfolds, many in Tampa and beyond await justice for Jevario Buie and hope for a resolution that sparks positive change among the youth and their environments.
