Community Foundation Tampa Bay Awards Over $2.2 Million to 84 Nonprofits in Key Service Areas

Community Foundation Tampa Bay has awarded more than $2.2 million in grants to 84 nonprofit projects located in the Greater Tampa Bay area. This funding is aimed at supporting various community initiatives focused on five critical areas: economic opportunity, environmental resiliency and sustainability, physical and mental health and wellbeing, quality youth education, and vibrant and engaged communities.

This year, the foundation received 363 grant applications, with 20% of these submissions coming from first-time applicants. A team of 50 reviewers evaluated the applications and selected the recipients based on their alignment with the foundation’s focus areas.

Brandi Sanchez, the Senior Director of Community Investment at Community Foundation Tampa Bay, noted that the foundation’s priority areas were established through thorough community conversations. This process helps ensure that the nonprofit projects they support are directly addressing the needs of local residents.

Importance of the Funding

The foundation recognizes the extraordinary resilience of nonprofit organizations, especially following the challenges posed by hurricanes in recent years. Supporting these organizations is seen as vital to fostering recovery and growth in the community.

Collaboration with Local Fundholders

Community Foundation Tampa Bay collaborates with various fundholders, including individuals, families, and corporate partners, to maximize charitable impact within the region. Fundholders have the option to designate specific projects for their contributions or to allow the foundation to choose recipients that align with their charitable goals.

Several notable organizations received funding this year. The Florida Audubon Society’s Reducing Fishing Debris Program was awarded $25,000 to implement cleanup efforts across Pinellas County. AdventHealth Foundation’s Exploring Health Program, which focuses on educational support for individuals entering the healthcare field, received a grant of $52,000. Additionally, the MacDonald Training Center, Inc.’s CommUNITY Works Program was granted $50,000 to provide job training for individuals living with disabilities.

35 Years of Community Investment

Marking its 35th anniversary, Community Foundation Tampa Bay has surpassed a remarkable milestone by committing over $1 billion to community development initiatives since its inception. In addition to grant funding, the organization provides a Critical Needs List that connects nonprofit organizations with philanthropists who are looking to address urgent community needs.

Long-Term Giving and Scholarships

Community Foundation Tampa Bay also offers individuals the opportunity to establish endowments for long-term charitable giving. Scholarships are available through fundholders to support students pursuing education in the community.

Future Goals
