In a panic, the driver attempted to escape and, while doing so, unintentionally struck a motorized bicyclist who sustained minor injuries. The driver then proceeded to Thorntons to seek help, where Ferrell was ultimately taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives conducted a thorough investigation and identified Clarke as the shooter through various investigative methods. On June 2, 2025, law enforcement located Clarke at a residence on the 100 block of Logarto Circle West in Lutz and took him into custody.
